Another day at IFFK and this wonderful city!!
Film festival.. is it another excuse to roam about this city with my sweetest friends? I doubt that. The joy is inexplicable. And the wonderful fact is that we never realize it then. Afterwards while we spend drab hours over much detested assignments and ponder over hopeless things, these moments and walks and city snaps come back in flashes… well, as mentioned before why settle for nostalgia, when you can grab it all at the moment?
Film festival brings along with it a number of people attired for the occasion. They do it so alarmingly that we fear whether the hippie movement is back! We encountered this guy from our college, a small guy from a degree class. Last time we saw him<, he was very clean and neatly dressed. What a drastic change!! We were rushing off for another show while this guy stopped us. It took a moment to recognize him. Hair grown and streaming around his face, carrying an old cloth bag and what more, a big black grandpa umbrella!! But to our relief, he was the same old guy who just boasted about getting a new look and borrowing the umbrella from a sir. It made us wonder, are all the goons dressing up for the occasion just looking for a conventional “buddhijeevi” look?? Why be a deliberate buddhijeevi?? A trend which caught the eye was the long kurtas and unkempt and uncut hair of guys and well trimmed and boycut hair of girls.
Amidst all these were the three of us, dressed in our usual attire. To be truthful, I had felt earlier that I should procure some kurtas and an old faded pair of jeans. But well, after seeing the commonness of it, I made up my mind to change the plan. Being a conformist is something which I’m trying to dread now. So I’m back to the usual salwar attire.
My complaint about the lack of rush was clarified today. We had the time of our lives pushing open the doors and being swept off the foot, thankfully to good seats!!
The long wait in front of the theatre was overwhelming! Appu and I were the only two girls in the vicinity. I was sitting on a red plastic chair. The crowd was very thick and it suddenly parted for a moment. It was a single moment. Through the narrow gap between several faces, I saw a pair of slightly reddened, drunken looking eyes!! That was the moment of the day. It is still fresh in the memory!! Call my taste odd, but that is how it is!!!
